About Me
I have wanted to be a pediatrician for as long as I can remember. As a child, I enjoyed seeing my doctor. I liked the way the office was decorated and the lighthearted nature of the visits.
As a pediatric hospitalist, I care for children at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island on both the pediatric floor and the mother–baby unit. I enjoy working in a hospital setting, because I am able to care for both sick and healthy children. I manage gastrointestinal, urinary tract, and skin infections, as well as asthma, pneumonia, and COVID-19. I also perform routine newborn evaluations.
I collaborate with a variety of healthcare providers to deliver care of the highest quality that is patient centered and evidence based. I often consult with pulmonologists, infectious disease specialists, cardiologists, and hematologist–oncologists, among many others. I also work with home healthcare nurses and social workers to ensure my patients and their families have a smooth transition from the hospital to the home.
I am passionate about family-centered care, and partner with parents to come up with the most appropriate treatment plan for their child. I keep my patients’ families updated on their condition and communicate regularly with their pediatricians.
I am dedicated to improving quality of care and have published research on this topic. During my residency, I started a program in the neonatal intensive care unit at Winthrop University Hospital, now NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island, to decrease hypothermia rates in premature newborns. This condition, in which the body temperature is abnormally low, is more common in premature babies. I created a simple checklist for hospital staff to follow to prevent this condition. Several years after the program was implemented, the rate of hypothermia dropped from 50 percent to just 14 percent.
In addition to caring for patients, I work with medical students as assistant clinical professor of pediatrics at NYU Long Island School of Medicine. My biggest commitment with the medical school is working as a faculty facilitator for the students’ longitudinal course on social sciences, humanities, ethics, and professionalism.
